Happy Halloween

I hope everyone had a safe and happy Halloween!  This was Kason's first time trick or treating and we all had a ton of fun!  I'm so happy with how his costume turned out and I'm glad I gave a go at making it on my own.  It was original, creative, and affordable.

I started with a blazer and a pair of pants that I picked up from a local thrift store.  I distressed both pieces by cutting little bits off from the seams, scraping the fabric with sharp scissors, and cutting small holes.  Then I used Heat and Bond to adhere patches and used embroidery floss to "sew" around the outside of each patch.  I threw them in the wash to complete my distressed look!  For just a few dollars, I achieved a very "Frank" worthy wardrobe.  :)

 

Then it was on to constructing the head of Frankenstein.  I started with a McDonald's Happy Meal pail.  It fit perfectly on Kason's head and he actually liked wearing it around the house, so it was a win/win situation. 

I cut a piece of polar fleece to cover the outside of the pail and used Fabri-Tac to glue the ends together creating a cylinder.  Next, I cut out a piece of black craft fur and used  hot glue to glue the fur around the top of pail.  I cut the side pieces for the hat and attached them with Fabri-Tac and used a piece of Velcro to attach it under Kason's chin.  I finished it off with black stitches and little, wooden knobs that were painted silver and hot glued onto the sides for Frank's bolts.  Then I just slipped the hat onto the pail and hot glued around the edges to hold it in place.

Sutch an Inspiration

Hey Everyone!  I hope all is well!  Fall to me is all about family, yummy food, and making your home cozy so here are a few projects that are all about fall to me.

Erin (great name BTW) from Lemon Tree Creations grabbed her little guy for some fun outdoors.  They collected fall colored leaves and then she shows us how to preserve the leaves in paraffin wax.  It is such a cool project and I love how she displayed them as a banner in this frame.

When I get handy with some tools (hey, it will happen), I want to make this Ballard Designs inspired paper holder Beckie made at Infarrantly Creative.  She has a fantastic, easy-to-follow tutorial and I love how you gain a ton of space by essentially putting an easel on the wall.  What a fun way to entertain kiddos while you cook dinner or jot down your shopping or TO DO list for the day.

Suesan at Frou-FruGal has a wonderful tutorial on how to make this copper pumpkin.  I think it's the cutest and I especially love the curly wire vines and beaded leaves!  This is super affordable and can be displayed for the entire season.  I'm envisioning some copper petina!

This recipe for pumpkin spice waffles that Dannyelle from Life is a Party shared sounds (and looks) delectable!  I'm wishing I had a waffle iron so I could make these on a Sunday morning...maybe I can turn it into a pancake recipe. :)

Gingerbread and Pumpkin Trifle

Hello, Gorgeous Crafts & Sutch Readers!  :)  I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!  The monkey and I went shopping on Saturday at a thrift shop to find some clothes for his Halloween costume.  He is going to be Frankenstein because he already has got the walk down!  :)  We scored on some pants and a little blazer that I'm going to refashion and Frank up for next Sunday.

On to the deliciousness that is this final EEK WEEKS project!  A bowl full of fall goodness...gingerbread and pumpkin trifle!

Now I'm no Betty Crocker by any means, but I do enjoy a good dessert and I especially love making them when they are super, duper easy!  I've dumbed down this recipe from Paula Deen and it is pure heaven.

I followed Paula's recipe but substituted six vanilla pudding cups for the cook and serve vanilla pudding.  I also added a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the whipped topping a la Sandra Lee.  I've made this trifle several times and I always come home with rave reviews and an empty dish.

If you want to dumb it down even more (which I've done) or you are in a time crunch, buy gingerbread or pumpkin bread from your local bakery or grocery store.  It's just as delicious, looks just as fabulous, and saves you time.

Coming up this week:  Sutch an Inspiration, Kason's Frankenstein costume, and some fall decor.  :)  I can't believe this is the last week of October.  It has flown by and I have to admit I'm going to miss seeing all of the black and orange around blogland.  Have a super week!

Sutch an Inspiration

I so love being a part of this community!  I am always inspired to try new things.  I love it, but my husband wishes crafting were free. :)

Here are a few things I've seen around blogland that are SUTCH an inspiration:

I LOVE this Halloween advent calendar that Cassie created over at Something From Cassie!  Each of those little holes are covered with magnets!  How very clever!  She also has one for Christmas.  I can't wait to start traditions like this when Kason gets a little older. 

I guess I have a thing for advent calendars.  :)  I think this Give Thanks Gratitude Board over at Jellybean Junkyard is a perfect way to remember what we are thankful for.  Hop on over for an excellent tutorial!

I haven't seen anything like these paper pumpkins Heather made over at WhipperBerry!  They are too cool!  I love that you can use any color scrapbook paper to work with your decor and they will last you through Thanksgiving too...always a good thing!

 
We all know how much I love wreaths, and this one definitely ranks at the top of my list.  Jenni from Beautiful Nest shows how to create this linen wreath.  It is so effortlessly chic!  I love it!

Mossy Fall Plaques

Hello, All!  Happy Monday!  I hope you had a great weekend!  We were able to spend time with family and that is always a good thing. :)

For this week's EEK WEEKS project, I thought I would tone it down and make something natural that could be displayed in your home for the entire season.

I'm sorry I do not have a full photo tutorial, but this was super easy to make so I'll just talk you through it. :)

You will need three wood plaques, spray paint (I used brown), scrapbook paper, Mod Podge, craft foam brush, scissors, moss sheet, ribbon, and a hot glue gun.  Optional supplies:  distressing ink and jute.

To begin, spray the plaques with spray paint.  While the paint is drying, cut out fall shapes from the moss sheet.  Have you seen this stuff?  I found it at the Dollar Tree, and I only used one sheet for this project!

I found images of a pumpkin, an acorn, and a leaf on Google images, printed them out, cut around the images, and used the cut outs as stencils to cut the moss sheet.

Measure the top of the wooden plaque and cut the scrapbook paper to fit, distress the edges of the paper with ink, and then Mod Podge the paper to the plaque.

Hot glue the moss to the plaque and embellish with jute (a curly vine for the pumpkin, a rim for the cap of the acorn, and veins for the leaf).

 Hot glue ribbon to the back of the plaque and hang on a nail.  I really wanted to hang the plaques from decorative knobs, but wanted to keep my budget in mind so I hot glued a button to the end of each nail.  Personally, I think it is my favorite part of the project! :)

I have to admit that I'm a little sad there is only one more EEK WEEK project left!  I do promise that is will be positively pumpkiny deliciousness!  :)
