I've been on a cooking kick lately. I really do not like to cook, but I know it is so much better for my family and our pocketbook if I do. I've been making a valiant effort. I'll head over to KraftRecipes.com, pick out my dinners, add them to my shopping list, and print it out with all of the recipes. A week's worth of recipes and a shopping list equal several sheets of paper, so I came up with a way to help keep my weekly menu organized.
This project was so easy! Here's what I did: a scrapbook paper covered file folder holds all the recipes for the week. I glued the outside edges of the folder together to create a little pocket. I used my Cricut to cut out the label and the letters and spruced them up with a little distressing ink.
I Mod Podged scrapbook paper onto a metal sign (I found mine on clearance at Michael's, but I've also found them at the Dollar Tree), used my Cricut to cut out the word DINNER, and made some satin rosette magnets.
The magnetic board is the perfect place to display the recipe for dinner that night.
Now for the best part! I used 3M Command strips to adhere these to the inside of one of my kitchen cabinets. This cabinet is right next to my stove, so it stays open while I'm cooking and my recipe is always visible and up out of the way (so it doesn't get covered in dinner). :)
This system has been working brilliantly! It's so fantastic knowing that dinner is already planned, I just have to pick out what I want to cook. What do you think? :)
Have a great weekend, Everyone! :) I'll be linking up to these super parties!
LOVE this idea!! I am going to do a blog post about meal planning on my blog tomorrow and I'd love to share this creative idea with my readers:)

That's really cute and I love the idea. I hardly ever use recipes, but I may have to start so I'll have an excuse for one of these in my kitchen!!
ReplyDeleteCute idea! I love those magnets that you made!
ReplyDeleteI Love This Idea!!! I have something similar in my home, that I made just before Thanksgiving so that I could have the recipe standing up and within plain view to make for easy following. I was just getting ready to talk about mine on my blog next week along with a a few other recipe book and other cooking inspirational things.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea and you made it look so cute.
ReplyDeleteYou read my mind, girl! I've been wanting to implement something similar at my house. I have a document typed up of all the recipes we love to make that I want to put inside the door of our pantry so I can use it to plan weekly meals. So often I forget what dinners we love to eat; I need a reminder! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic idea Erin and it turned out so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteE, you've done it again!!! Love love love it!!! I'm so going to have to make one. Making rosettes freaks me out :) so I might have to come over and let you show me how.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of placing it on the inside of the cabinet. I never would have thought of that.
ReplyDeleteLOVE this idea! My Mom cooks all the time and I need to get into a better habit of doing so myself. This is a great gift idea and something I also need to make for me. Thanks!!!
ReplyDeleteLove it! Simple and functional...perfection. Thinking I need to find a way to incorporate this into my own kitchen.
ReplyDeleteCUTE! Those rosette magnets are divine!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute idea! I love how you kept it simple and functional.
ReplyDeleteThis is AWESOME!! I've tried and tried before to get myself organized for dinner ... and I usually end up running around like a chicken an hour before dinner with no clue as to what I'm going to make ... but this looks like something even I could do! Thank you for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteReally lovely and handy idea.
ReplyDeletelooooove this! The colors & patterns are beautiful! And I'm such a fan of organization & planning lately...ahhh :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for linking to "20 Below Thursday"!
So cute!
ReplyDeleteAnd I love that it is on the inside of your cabinet door so that it can be tucked away.
SO very cute!! I want one. I love how it is tucked away. My recipes always end up cluttering the kitchen. This is brilliant. I am going to make one!! If only I can get it to look half as good as yours!
ReplyDeleteLOVE this idea! So convenient to keep notes, recipes, etc in for the week's menu, and no one has to see it. So clever! I just did my own recipe re-org over at www.shadytreediary.blogspot.com

ReplyDeleteI absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this idea! It's perfect! I too print out my menus for the week but then I have them stuck somewhere on the counter to wait until the night I need it. Then I get stuff all over it while cooking!
ReplyDeleteTHIS IS GORGEOUS!
I am making it THIS WEEK!

LOVE!!!
ReplyDeleteE I absolutely love it!! It's so cute it makes me want to cook. I also have an idea to use this in my classroom. I can make a make-up folder for when my students are absent. I also want to make one for inspirational quotes for when I need an extra push and possibly a coupon one. Ummm can you tell I love your crafts!

What a terrific concept this is! I love how it is tucked away in the cabinet, but easily accessible, too!
ReplyDeleteI have been trying to find a system for this very thing. Thanks for the solution!
ReplyDeleteI like this! Dumb question though - how do you get it to stay on the cabinet door?
ReplyDeleteLOVE IT!
ReplyDeleteLove this!! Just brilliant. I, too, am not an avid meals-every-night cook. This just might solve my problem too!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Thank you, Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI love this idea!
Now I just have to recruit my crafty friend to help me dissect the craft talk in this post so that I can make it. haha
Wow! Thank you all so much for the comment love! :) You are too sweet! :)
ReplyDeleteShannon, I used 3M Command strips. They usually come with hooks so you can hang things on the wall without a nail. I just used the strip. It's perfect because it won't damage the cabinet when we take it down.
Tons of ideas for other uses... Make one for each child and hang in the mudroom -- great place for important papers and notes that need to be signed (or even just special notes of encouragement!).
ReplyDeleteI'm a homeschooler, so I think it would be great for me to hang their weekly assignment sheet on the magnetic part, then put any worksheets or extra papers they'll need right in the folder.
Beautiful -- thanks!
SO SUPER CUTE! Your newest follower - no clue how I made it to you - I'm hopping around tonight!

I just happened upon this Friday night, and just loved it! I have been looking for a menu planning board, but the ones I have found on the internet weren't for me. Then, I found your post - and ran out first thing this morning to Hobby Lobby to get a few things to make my own version. I featured it on my webpage if you would like to take a look & gave you credit for the idea. Thanks again for the inspiration!
